You gotta start somewhere. I started at the rehab facility and about two weeks in the physical therapist started. We didn’t know each other. Over the next three weeks we felt each other out but basically we were strangers. The third week in I watched as a patient was wheeled in via wheelchair. She had involuntary tremors and visually she exhibited depressive traits. About ten minutes later I smelled pot. Having a mother of a teenager nose I investigated where this smell was coming from. This is an elderly day treatment program so I am thinking I am going to find a 20 something nursing assistant sneaking in a hit in the bathroom. Instead I find “Janet” smoking a full fledged joint on the patio. WTF? I was laughing while being shocked. I walk straight up to her to ask “WTF are you doing?”. I’m a cool therapist like that. Anyhoo, she laughs me off and tells me “ it helps” and I agree to meet her inside after breakfast.
Let me break this down for you. I have been a therapist for over 27 years. I have seen almost everything. But,.l haven’t seen this. I am not a cannabis user. I’m a therapist with kids and a family and pretty conservative in general. Shit, I don’t even recommend icy hot for fear it will damage someone’s skin. But here a now standing and walking Janet is in front of me asking me “what do you need to know?” And damn I had a lot I needed to know.
Janet walked in about 20 minutes later with a walker. Her tremors ceased and she sat at the table eating on her own and even drank a hot cup of coffee safely. I approached her and asked if I could start researching her progress using pot. She quickly corrected me and said “Absolutely, I will help you understand the good CANNABIS does for me”. That was the moment my skewed opinion of “pot”, “weed”, “marijuana” changed,
Over the next 6 six months my co-founder and I began testing Janet in all areas including physical, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual. She changed our opinions in the lost real way possible. We couldn’t deny what this was doing for her. This woman had cancer, Parkinson’s, AIDS and depression with PTSD. That’s a laundry list of diagnoses and is overwhelming to any treating therapist. In this case she already had exhausted most available options for treatment. She did not want to become addicted to opiates as her daughter was suffering through that addiction at this time. She was getting counseling and working with a program to get her permanent housing. But what could we help with? She obviously like ,lost people had a very limited budget as most disabled people do. But we couldn’t just give her money as our licenses limit this kind of behavior.
As we continued our standardized tests on Janet she began to open up to us. She ended up missing a full week and we were concerned. Ends up she had a “bad” bag of weed she got from the “kid” down the block. I will never forget asking her “ but I don’t understand, why can’t you just go to a weed store, like a dispensary?”. She laughed. Responded with “hun, that’s too expensive. I can’t afford that.”. My now co-founder looked at me and asked “how can we fix this?”.
That is how PlanetDaily was created. The intent is to save people money on weed. We figure if a business can save money on advertising they will then pass that savings onto their customers. Janet will get a better deal and get rewarded for her return visits and the business will get a loyal customer who is excited about going into their business to get a decent and fair deal.
People start businesses for all sorts of reasons but in this case we started it and live it daily as Janet being our reason. She inspired us through testing that there is a time and a place where cannabis truly works. We witnessed increased timed testing, decreased tremors, increased functional activity, and decreased depressive episodes. No other treatment had provided this ability to achieve the goals we set together. Given our combined experience in therapy of over 40 years we have never seen anything like it.
Because if this we focused in on how we could make a real impact in everyday people’s lives. We started with a simple idea of coupons and here we are three years later with the most effective mobile application that saves people money on weed in the world.
I mean Who in the world doesn’t want to save money on cannabis?
